Millennium, Sunnyslope, Chandler, Xavier excel at Forner

Millennium, Sunnyslope, Xavier and Chandler dominated competition Saturday at the annual Bobbi Forner Badminton Invitational hosted by Sunnyslope High School.
Millennium's Steph Vermillion was the winner in of the No. 1 singles entries in the tournament while Sunnyslope's Jasmine Fuller and Alisa Turkina were the top No. 1 team in doubles play.
The invitational's format pits round-robin play of the entered schools' No. 1 vs. No.1, No. 2 vs. No. 2, No 3 vs. No. 3 , No. 4 vs. No. 4, No. 5 vs. No. 5 and No. 6 vs, No. 6 players. Doubles matches pit the No. 1 vs. No. 1, No. 2 vs. No. 2 and No.3 vs. No. 3. Winners are the player(s) with the best record in round-robin play.
The deepest teams based on winners were Chandler and Xavier. Chandler's Wit Wattananimitgul won No. 2 singles as did teammates Jordan Hammel (No. 3 singles) and JeZhe Newton (No. 5 singles). Xavier's Kersten Ozkan won No. 4 singles, Elizabeth Dobbins No.6 singles and Cate Welch and Erin McKenna won No. 2 doubles. Millennium's Steph Mulkern and Kalee Hunter were the winners in No. 3 doubles.
Also competing in the invitational were Apollo, Desert Mountain, Greenway and Independence.
