Xavier and Alhambra repeated as team champions, but new individual champs were crowned Saturday at the the annual George Young Cross Country Invitational at Sanctuary Golf Course in Scottsdale.

The girls had to have a new champ since four-time winner Jessica Tonn of Xavier graduated. But the individual title still belonged to Xavier as sophomore Sarah Fakler scorched the 23-team field with a winning time of 17 minutes, 47.5 seconds. That time was just more than one minute better than runner-up Brianna Decker of Mesa Mountain View (18:48). Finishing third was Nogales's Zahira Jimenez (18:54), the only other runner to finish under 19 minutes.

Xavier totaled 27 points with scoring finishes of first, fifth (Daylee Burr), sixth (Breanna Perrone), seventh (McKenna Gaffney) and eighth (Julianne Vice). It's other two runners placed ninth and 22nd. Mesa Mountain View finished second (76) and Highland (118) was third. Xavier returned six of its top seven runners from last year.

Alhambra, led by last year's individual champ Jorge Martinez,  scored 68 points to take home the title for the second year in a row. Mesa Mountain View was second (100) and Brophy (118) was third. Alhambra returns its entire top seven from last season.

Unseating Martinez for the top spot Saturday was Brophy senior Will Firth. Firth covered the 3-mile course 15:39. Highland's Cory Breinholt was second 15:43 and Sunrise Mountain's Brandon Kocmoud (15:47) was third. Kocmoud turned in the best time the week before at the Chandler Invitational.

Martinez finished fourth followed by scoring teammates Ignacio Villalba (sixth), Max Talamantes (10th), Sergio Sanchez (23rd ) and Jesus Bustillos (25th).
