Sports all over the world are shut down for the foreseeable future due to COVID-19.

That means all spring sports at Saguaro High will unfortunately not be able to finish their season.

Many of Saguaro’s teams had enjoyed only a couple of weeks of games.

It’s been upsetting for many of the people involved, especially the student-athletes, but they are still trying their best to stay in shape.

“I would say many of the student-athletes are utilizing this time not only to get in shape but train in a more controlled isolated environment,” Saguaro senior tennis player Johnny Corte said. “I have seen some of our student-athletes give back to the sport by volunteering and learning more about leadership.”

All athletes are home, leaving the seniors with a very abrupt ending to their high school athletics career.

“Our athletes, of course, are extremely disappointed, but ultimately I think they understand this is just something unfortunately we have no control over,” said Saguaro athletic director Brandon Johnston.

However, team members are all still in contact with each other via email chains or some sort of a group messaging system. They find it important to keep in contact with one another.

“Our coaches remain in communication with our athletes,” Johnston said. "Everyone knows and understands this is a unique situation and we don’t really have any previous history to go off of, but we’re all working together to make decisions for what’s best for our student athletes.”
