The Chandler Prep Titans played their first home volleyball match on Monday, September 28 against the Spartans from Leading Edge Academy and won in three games. Senior Evi Yates, a strong hitter, totaled 11 kills in the match and said this about their performance:
“It was good. We definitely had a lot of missed serves which we need to clean up and were a little too aggressive at times, but overall, I think we did well minimizing our errors and playing as a team.”
The match was riddled with errors on both sides of the court, but the Titans did a better job recovering from their errors and relying on a strong front line to defeat the Spartans. The Titans offensive power kept Leading Edge to under 13 points in each game, winning the first 25-12, the second 25-7, and the final 25-13, making it their fifth consecutive match won in three games. Chandler Prep maintained a lead after six points in all three games, ending each serving for the win.
Team Captain and outside hitter Olivia Cadien lead the team in kills, totaling 13 with dominating power at the net, just edging out fellow senior Evi Yates. Coach Jones said this about her performance after selecting her as player of the game:
“Olivia played her best offensive game today. She was struggling last week—struggling by her standards. She’s normally one of our top offensive players and today she was that top offensive player for us”
The front line was assisted by the Titan’s ever-present setter, Senior Holly Gialketsis, earning an assist in the books for almost ever kill in Friday’s match.
Although most of the Titan’s errors occurred at the serving line, Junior Alyson Mingus performed well in the second and third games, collecting seven points in a single appearance in both and leading the team in aces at six.
Coach Jones, looking forward in the season said this:
“We started 5-0, but we know we have some tougher games coming up, so we just need to execute better, serve, receive and practice, and we should be pretty good moving forward”
The Titans hope to remain undefeated as they play three consecutive home matches on the first, second, and third of October. Titan Up.
