Addisyn Mayfield portrays the role model of a leader. She has been playing softball since she was eight years old.
I asked her why she enjoys playing softball? Addisyn answered, “I play softball because it is an amazing sport that I have played my whole life! My whole family has played either baseball or softball and it is a part of my family culture!”
The high school team record is 1-19, and they are ranked 34th in Division 3A. Addisyn would describe this season as being a strong character building season. Her favorite position to play is pitcher, since that was what she played most of the season. Although it’s been a difficult season readjusting from last year due to COVID-19, Addisyn has been able to stay strong and feels the team has done a good job of supporting one another throughout this seasonl. Another positive huge readjustment for the team was getting a new home field for the team to practice and play games.
I asked the question about what it is like to have this new field of their own? Addisyn said, “I love having a field of our own now because it gives us a home field advantage, and I absolutely love the turf! It makes it much easier to slide and field the ball!”
Addisyn feels she provides and receives great leadership from and to the team. She is always encouraging her teammates and never stops cheering them on. She also feels she receives strong encouragement from the coaches and her teammates to help cheer her on. Although she does still have areas to overcome and improve within the sport, she strives to improve her weaknesses through maximizing practice times to the best of her ability and also putting in a lot of work outside of the team practices. Although there were more downs than ups this season, Addisyn and her teammates still had a lot of fun this year.
