Salpointe girls win Flowing Wells Tournament of Champions

FLOWING WELLS GIRLS TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS

 

The Salpointe girls won the Flowing Wells Tournament of Champions held Thursday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Silverbell Golf Course. The Lancers beat Casteel 601 to 609 and Cienega and Flowing Wells tied for third place with 775.

Individually, 2018 state champion Mackenzie McRee shot an even 140 for the two days with a 1-under-par 69 on Saturday to hold off Casteel senior Kaylin Johnson (72-72: 144) by four strokes. Casteel freshman Jordin Cowing took third (75-74: 149).
The Division II state tournament for the girls will take place Oct. 25-26 at the Omni Tucson National Sonoran Course and the D-I playoffs will be held Nov. 1-2 on the same course.

The Ironwood Ridge girls are the top-ranked team in D-II and Casteel is ranked No. 3. Salpointe is No. 5. Other teams from Southern Arizona currently above the projected cut for state include No. 9 Catalina Foothills and No.12 Cienega. Individuals not attached to a qualifying team who are currently above the projected cut from Southern Arizona includes Sabino freshman Zaida Wise, Sabino senior Emarie Sooter and Sahuarita senior Rylee Koebnick. The top 18 individuals not attached to a qualifying team will make the playoff field.
