Casteel and Williams Field met up for their second region contest of the season Thursday night, but this time it was played in the Casteel gymnasium and the Colts got back what they’d lost the first time around.

After narrowly winning two hard fought sets, Casteel broke things open in the third, providing for a 3-0 victory over Williams Field, 25-22, 25-23, 24-13 in a 5A San Tan matchup.

Casteel senior Jadyn Orava led the Colts with 14 kills, six of which came in the decisive third set.

The victory puts Casteel (17-11, 5-1)  in the region drivers seat as the season draws toward the post-season.

“I’m proud of our kids tonight,” Casteel coach Cory Chandler said afterward.

“(Williams Field) played us really tough before and they won in five sets. It was back and forth again tonight in the first two sets, but I think the way we pulled off the second set probably gave us momentum going into the third. We finally started settling down and playing our game.”

The match seemed destined to five sets before Casteel took over in the third.

The Colts jumped out to a 15-7 lead thanks to Orava, who began taking control at the net with 3 kills and one block.

“This is a tough gym to play in,” Williams Field coach Brian Hiapo said.

“I’m proud of how our girls played again. Casteel is a great team. I think when it really came down to it, they may have wanted it a little bit more in the third set. Losing those first two sets so close was tough.
Williams Field falls to 14-11 and 4-2 in the region.
