Canyon View is championship bound

They played like they knew each other’s game plan.
Two of the state’s highest scoring offenses were held in check during the second meeting between Millennium and Canyon View. The stakes were much higher this time, as a state title berth in the inaugural 5A flag season was on the line.
Wednesday’s semifinal also helped further establish a new West Valley rivalry. For now, Canyon View holds the edge after outlasting the home team, 6-0, to advance to Saturday’s championship game.

A joyous Michael Beal, Canyon View’s coach, somehow popped his right shoulder right after the game, but Millennium’s trainer popped it back in. Beal wasn’t about miss celebrating with his team, shoulder or not.
Canyon View was the first team to shutout Millennium (12-3) this season. It intercepted the talented Breana Saunders twice and forced two turnover on downs during Millennium’s seven drives.
But Millennium’s defense also deserves kudos for holding 14-1 Canyon View, the highest scoring team in the state, to a season low in points. Millennium’s head coach Jermaine Austin’s father passed away this week, and Austin didn’t attend Wednesday’s semifinal.
But he and his staff did a great job of preparing their girls.
“They did a good job of rushing our quarterback,” Nyjah Green said.
Green scored the only touchdown in the game, a 6-yard score on a sweep play with 11:03 left in the fourth quarter.
