PRESCOTT — Adam Lloyd ran for two touchdowns, quarterback Uriah Tenette threw for two scores and Prescott rolled past visiting La Joya 56-7 on Friday night.

It was the first career start for Tenette as the signal caller for the Badgers (1-0, 0-0 4A Grand Canyon), which led 42-0 after the first quarter of play.

Defensively, Prescott came out determined and it showed, forcing La Joya backwards three straight plays until they were inside their own 5 before a below average punt put the Badgers in position to score almost immediately.

Lloyd took full advantage, scoring on a 10-yard run to put the Badgers up 7-0. After an Isaac Briseno touchdown, Lloyd added his second of the night on a 2-yard run.

On Prescott’s third possession, Tenette found Josiah Peoples with a 77-yard touchdown strike to make it 28-0 with 6:53 to go in the first quarter and they never looked back.

“I think it’s really good to get this first look for all of our ones (first team offense), and with all of our twos to get that new offensive scheme down,” Lloyd said about Prescott’s offensive effort Friday night.

Tenette, who is one of the top prep basketball players in the state of Arizona and has a few NCAA Division I offers, felt the offense did its job against La Joya.

“We made a statement tonight putting up 56 points in the first half. It was a good way to start the season, picking up the win at home. We had a lot of fun out there,” Tenette said.

Friday night’s contest was more or less a warmup for the Badgers, which now face three tough games in a row at Thunderbird (preseason No. 5 on AzPreps365.com), at Northwest Christian and then home against Vista Grande.

“I think we have a really good chance against Thunderbird and Northwest Christian, we just have to lock it down in practice,” Lloyd said.

Tenette believes Prescott will be more than just competitive in the upcoming weeks.

“We have an opportunity to win all of those games. I think we’ll give ourselves a shot to win every game, playing as hard as we can,” Tenette said. “We’re going to take this next week of practice and get locked in, be ready for Friday.”

Prescott head coach Cody Collett pointed to his collective team speed as a “plus” heading into the next few weeks, adding that the Badgers did some things well, and not so well Friday.

“I was proud of our effort. I was proud to get everyone in the game. They come to practice every day so its always a plus. I was pleased with that. Our preparation this week was pretty good, and all in all it was a good victory to begin the season,” Collett said.

As for his outlook on Thunderbird, Northwest Christian and Vista Grande, three teams that beat Prescott a season ago to force a 1-4 start, Collett is excited to play the schedule they have.

“We got a challenging schedule because we made the quarterfinals in back-to-back seasons, and we should get a challenging schedule. We’re very excited to play Thunderbird, I believe they were the Arizona Republic’s preseason No. 1, and they have every right to be,” Collett said. “I have huge respect for coach [Matt] Nalette and his team, coach [David] Inness at Northwest Christian is one of the best coaches in the state and Vista Grande put it on us real bad last year, so we have our work cut out for us.”
