Canyon del Oro wins the Dorado Classic

Canyon del Oro beat Tanque Verde 10-0 to win the championship of the Dorado Classic held at the Lincoln Park Complex this past week. Canyon del Oro went 7-0 at the tournament and Tanque Verde went 6-2 with several important victories for the 3A program.
The Hawks beat 6A Desert Vista 2-1, 5A Buena 15-2, 5A Cienega, 4A Walden Grove 5-2 and 6A Tucson twice, including a 3-2 win over the Badgers in nine innings in the semifinal round, before falling to Canyon de Oro. The Dorados moved to the 5A Conference this spring form the 4A Conference.
In the championship game, Amelia Streuber picked up the win with eight strikeouts and only two hits given up in five innings of work. Emma Shaffer went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Braelyn Leiber went 2 for 3 with a triple and Kayla Hendrix collected a grand slam for the Dorados.
Gabby Fukunaga threw for Tanque Verde, Aubrey Cantalicio had a double and Mikaela Jackson had the other hit for the Hawks. Tanque Verde will travel to Cholla (0-1) on Tuesday, March 4 to start the regular season.
Canyon del Oro opens up with Rincon/UHS (1-5) on Monday.
Desert Vista beat Casteel 8-4 in the consolation final. Desert Vista finished 7-1 and Casteel finished 4-3.
