Catalina Foothills over Nogales 8-1
March 20, 2025 by Andy Morales, AZPreps365

Catalina Foothills beat Nogales 8-1 in a home match on Thursday to move to 6-1 on the year and the Apaches are now 5-1. Buena beat Catalina Foothills 5-3 on Wednesday.
The Falcons lost in the first round of the Division II playoffs last year to break a streak of straight team championships with the last three coming under Daniel Root. The doubles team of Gracie Petrow and Charlotte Henderson made it to the semifinal round last year.
This year, section champions will earn an automatic playoff berth unless that team falls outside of the top 16. In that case, the lower ranked section champion will need to win a play-in match to make the state tournament.
Nogales senior Danapaola Camacho made it to the D-II singles second round last year. The first set of AIA rankings are slated to be released on March 27. The top ranked eight individuals and doubles teams will get an automatic state bid and the next 24 slots will be decided by the Tennis Advisory Committee. Last year, the Catalina Foothills doubles team of Maddie Kumar and Isabella Gamas also earned a playoff slot.
Catalina Foothills will host Amphitheater (1-3) on April 1 and Nogales will host Rio Rico (1-3) on March 27.
