Salpointe over Orange Lutheran 2-1 to win the Lancer Invitational

SALPOINTE LANCER INVITATIONAL
Sept. 19-20 Sporting Chance Center
Salpointe went 7-0 this past Friday and Saturday to win the Lancer Invitational held at the Sporting Chance Center. Salpointe beat Orange Luteran (CA) 2-1 in the championship match held Saturday afternoon.
Orange Lutheran (20-4), located east of Anaheim, took the first set 25-20 and Salpointe (14-0) tied the match up 25-23 to set up a dramatic third set where Salpointe pulled out an 18-16 victory.
Natalie Mobley put Salpointe up 5-2 but Orange Lutheran went on to tie the set at 12-12. Mobley made it 13-12 Salpointe but Orange Lutheran scored twice to take a 14-13 lead. Orange Lutheran failed to score in the first championship point and the Lancers took advantage and scored twice to go back up 15-14. A touch of the net spoiled a championship point for Salpointe but Caitlin Hurley hit Ivy Allen to give Salpointe a brief 16-15 lead.
Orange Lutheran tied the set back up on a deep dump from Marley Robinson but Hurley connected with Kiki Muehlebach on a score from the back row to put Salpointe back up 17-16 and then Hurley hit Kate Mobley on the left side for the clincher to win the set 18-16.
Natalie Mobley had 10 kills and Kate Mobley had eight to lead Salpointe. Allen had six blocks, Brooklyn Burgle had 14 digs, Reagan Burgle had 13, Hurley had 11 assists as did Brooklyn Burgle.
Salpointe travels to play Mica Mountain on Sept. 23 to open up 4A Kino Region play.
