Marana remains undefeated at 3-0 after a huge 17-7 win at Mesa Mountain View on Tuesday followed by a 30-0 win over district rival Marana Mountain View Thursday night in the “Battle for the Saddle.” The 30-0 spread is not indicative of the defense played by Mountain View at home Thursday night but it is a sign at how well the Tigers are able to adjust on the field.
Marana freshman QB Isabela Garcia ended up with 301 yards passing with four TDs and senior athlete Malaysia Roebuck collected 188 yards receiving with two scores but the Tigers were limited early with only a safety separating the two teams until Garcia hit So. Mazie Brown on a short pass to put Marana up 9-0 with 7:24 left in the first half. Roebuck pulled in a touchdown pass with 50 seconds left in the half and the Tigers led 16-0 at the break.
Freshman standout Sophia Silverstein pulled in an 11-yard score with 6:29 left in the third and the Tigers started to pull away with a 23-0 lead. Roebuck cashed in on a 67-yard catch with 8:19 left in the game to make it 30-0. Mountain View So. QB Emma Gibbons broke free on a 50-yard dash with a few minutes left but Roxi Singer chased her down to preserve the shutout. The last minute of the game featured interceptions from Brooklyn Griffin of Marana and Sasha Onger for Mountain View.
Jr. Jai'da Kinsler added 46 yards receiving for Marana and Singer pulled in 36 more. Gibbons had 28 yards passing and 55 yards rushing.
