Benjamin Franklin waltzed past the Valley Christian Thursday night on what seemed to be another day at the office as a 35-6 victory means the Chargers are now 6-0 and now sit alone atop the 3A Metro Region.

Talon Spier was the run away player of the game, tallying three touchdown receptions, and a fourth an interception on the defensive side of the ball. Spier continued his success this year as he went into the game averaging 124.8 yards per game and showed zero signs of slowing down.

A first quarter snag gave him his first score, followed by a sizable fourth-down touchdown on the very next drive. He capped it off with his third touchdown in the fourth to put the cherry on top of an all-around dominant victory.

Spier gave credit to his quarterback getting him the ball.

“Gavin (Wyler) is one of the best quarterbacks in Arizona," Spier said,

High praise for the man who leads the charge for the Chargers.

Wyler crossed the 1,000-yard mark on the season during the game, along with bringing his total touchdowns up to 17 total. Wyler was poised in the pocket and only had a couple miscues, including a fumbled snap late in the first half.

Carson Stetka brought home the other two Charger touchdowns on the day with two touchdown runs inside the red zone. Stetka had a healthy day running behind his stout offensive line that did not allow a single sack. Ammon Alexander and Co. dominated the trenches, but it was not without a handful of holding calls.

Ashton Goddard starred on the defensive side of the ball with a strip sack and a couple of tackles for loss.

Defensive coordinator Jeremy Sather was on Goddard in practice this week after “an up and down start to the year,” but described his play as "phenomenal" and was happy his hard work has started to pay off.

Defensively as a whole, the Chargers looked rocky in the beginning when a wide receiver screen went over 50 yards to the house on a couple of missed tackles for Valley Christian.

However, from then on, it was all business. Four interceptions and an iron defense did not allow the Trojans to enter the red zone for the rest of the game.

Head coach Danny Norris had high praise for both sides of the ball, praising the offense for “executing at a high level” and sticking to the game plan. He was proud defensively by how the guys responded after the early slip up, crediting them for “not flinching whatsoever.”

Benjamin Franklin hosts the 5-0 Gilbert Christian Knights next week in what looks to be a fight between two incredibly balanced teams which have both only had one one-score game this season.

The Chargers have won three straight against the Knights and are looking to continue their incredibly strong start to the season, and one that could lead them into the playoffs.
