SCOTTSDALE- Scottsdale Christian notched its 24th sweep of the season as they rolled Red Rock, 3-0, on Thursday evening.

The Eagles aced their way to their 26th win, combining for 27 aces as a team against the Scorpions, winning 25-5, 25-7, 25-9.

Scottsdale Christian’s aggressive serving helped them take control early and set the tone for the game.

“That has been a big focus for us this year, probably our biggest improvement from last season.” Scottsdale Christian coach Julie Dickerson said. “We feel that in 2A we can serve teams off the court and at least push them out of system.”

The Eagles scored 47 of their 75 points off errors by the Scorpions, and the strong serves of both Emma Weller, a sophomore defensive specialist, and Kaylee Howell, a senior defensive specialist, who both tallied seven aces.

“Honestly, I think it was just the energy tonight,” Weller said. “We just had great energy and adrenaline going into it, which feeds off us serving.”

Lucy Dickerson, senior libero, and Kaya Olafson, junior outside hitter, also added to the team's ace total. Dickerson, who is the daughter of coach Julie Dickerson, served four aces while Olafson gathered three aces of her own and led her team with six kills.

“It’s a joy to watch her play as a coach, but I have to force myself to step back and watch her through parent lenses as well,” coach Dickerson said. “She has led this team as the libero for four years and has been the life of the team. It's fun to watch her play like this and finish her career here.”

The Scorpions also showed flashes of momentum in their performance as they halted long runs by the Eagles while also stringing together a few two-point runs of their own.

“We try to focus on what we can control while also playing aggressively,” Red Rock coach John Parks said. “They have a lot of big girls and size on us, so we wanted to limit their opportunities to block us. Always move forward, focus on the next point, and don’t dwell on the past.”

Red Rock also showed heart on the heels of a five-kill game by senior outside hitter Addie Moore, who showed toughness through injury after taking a strongly hit volleyball to the face.

“She's tough, she works hard, and she's a great leader,” Parks said. “Addie does everything the right way, from school in the classroom to on and off the court, she’s just the best.”

Both Red Rock and Scottsdale Christian will now take a fall break before finishing their respective seasons.

The Eagles look forward to the break and their new tradition of a fall break team trip to California.

“I think it's great, we play so much volleyball throughout the week, it's pretty nice to get time off,” Olafson said.“We get to bond on things outside of volleyball and find more things that we have in common with each other, as well as build more trust as a team.”

With the season ending soon, coach Dickerson believes the trip will help fuel their preparation for the playoffs.

“It's all about connecting as a team without volleyball,” Dickerson said. “We want our girls to step off the court, relax, and connect as friends because we feel like we're best on the court when we are playing with joy, and our girls are so close as friends already.”

Scottsdale Christian (26–6, 3-0) will travel to Rancho Solano Prep (19-9, 3-0) on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m.

Red Rock (1-12, 0-4) will host Camp Verde (15-10, 1-0) on Oct. 20 at 6 p.m.
