Brophy and Hamilton have battled on the last day of the Division I state tournament eight times since 2007 with the Huskies winning five of those, with the Broncos taking three, including Thursday after Brophy beat Hamilton 549-561 at the Aguila Golf Course in Laveen.

The two programs have been so dominant, one of them has raised a championship trophy every year since 2018 and one of the two raised a runner-up trophy for the three years prior to that. Perry took second place to Brophy last year to put a pause to the one-two punch for a year and the Pumas took third this year with a 3-under-par 573 (283-290). Brophy came in 27-under (549: 272-277) Hamilton was 15-under (561: 281-280). No other program shot under par as a team.

Brophy also pulled ahead of Hamilton with 11 state championships and the Huskies have 10. Brophy joined Arcadia and Thatcher with a state-leading 11. Brophy set a D-I record.

Individually, Hamilton junior Owen Greenough shot 12-under (132: 68-64) to hold off Perry junior Ethan Butters (135: 66-69), Brophy junior Asher Nelson (135: 66-69) and Brophy sophomore Hank Miller (135: (67-68). Last year’s state champion, Hamilton senior Joseph Nelson (139: 68-71), took fifth along with Brophy senior Mateo Berastegui (139: 69-70).

Greenough, Pepperdine commit, shot an eagle of his fifth hole on Thursday and then followed that up with five birdies the rest of the way, including on the 17th and 18th holes. Butters, an ASU commit, shot a bogey on his final hole, Asher Nelson shot an eagle on his eighth hole and then played par the rest of the way and Miller collected four birdies on the back nine, including his last two holes, to force the three-way tie for second place. Nelson is headed to Arizona.
