Ben Mauseth of Rio Rico (Ariz.) put his name in the Arizona record books twice, as he set state records for batting average and stolen bases in a season.
According to the Arizona Daily Star, the senior hit .681 and registered 55 stolen bases this season to set the respective marks. He led his team to a 15-11 record this season, a program best.
Mauseth is set to head to Grand Canyon University next season, a school entering NCAA Division I and the Western Athletic Conference.
He also scored 40 runs, plated 31 RBIs, drew 22 walks and knocked seven triples this season.
"I'm glad I could leave my mark someplace in this world. Seems like I'm doing it," he was quoted as saying in the story. "I'm happy all those hours I stayed home and put in the work. It's starting to pay off and it shows. I'm thankful I am where I am today."
