East River's Murphy, Cinco Ranch's Ober Named Initial 2014 MaxPreps/NFCA National H.S. Players of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For their impressive efforts on the diamond over February 10-16, sophomore second baseman/pitcher Morgan Murphy (East River (Orlando, Fla.) High School) and senior pitcher/first baseman Kayla Ober (Cinco Ranch (Katy, Texas) High School) have been chosen as the initial MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for the 2014 spring campaign.
South Region
Murphy contributed strongly both at the plate and in the circle for the Falcons last week, hitting a blistering .688 (11-for-16) with eight runs scored, two doubles, a triple and eight RBIs while also posting a perfect 4-0 pitching record with a 1.11 ERA and 16 strikeouts over 19 innings of work. During a 16-7 victory over Freedom (FL), Murphy earned the win from the circle while going a staggering 5-for-5 at the dish with a pair of RBIs. For the young season, she is batting at a .667 clip to go along with 10 tallies and 11 RBIs.
South Central Region
Ober was a force during the opening week of play for the Cougars, registering a 6-0 pitching mark with a miniscule 0.45 ERA and 33 strikeouts over 31 innings of effort while maintaining a .600 batting average (12-for-20) with three runs scored, four doubles, two HR's and nine RBIs. She managed to hit safely in all seven of Cinco Ranch's match-ups, and during a 8-1 triumph over Carroll (TX), she struck out 10 and allowed just three hits while going 2-for-3 with a two-bagger and a RBI.

To nominate a player for the award, the coach must enter his or her athlete's game stats into MaxPreps.com by Sunday evening to be eligible for that week's award.
The MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week will be announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the spring season, with one representative chosen from each of five separate high school regions (if there are enough nominations to consider). During the fall campaign, just a single player will be selected representing all participating regions.
