D-II wrestling: Cibola staves off Liberty for repeat team crown

It's been a good week for Yuma area schools. That week was capped off Saturday nigh by Cibola as the Raiders were able to slip past Liberty and win a second straight Division II wrestling title at Prescott Valley Events Center in Prescott Valley.
Cibola's victory coupled with Yuma Catholic's D-III boys soccer title on Friday night and San Luis's runner-up finish in D-II boys soccer earlier Saturday was one of the area's better take homes in recent years. Cibola totaled 142 points and held off Liberty for the top spot. Liberty pressed the Raiders all weekend and finished with 130 points. Rounding out the the top five teams are Marana Mountain View (93), Desert Edge (80) and Cienega (79.5).
Cibola saw eight of its 13 wrestlers place, led by two-time champ Vicente Guerrero, who captured the 182-pound title for the second year in a row. Cibola was one of four schools with two champs. The Raidersalso won the 145-pound class with Andres Gandara doing the honors. The rest of Cibola's state placers are David Wuertemburg (113-5th); Josh Olson (120-2nd); Alexander Juarez (126-2nd); Frank Perez (132-6th); Martin Martinez (138-5th) and Simon Jacuinde (220-5th).
Four wrestlers besides Guerrero repeated as champs -- Deer Valley junior Jacob Swift (152), his third title in as many years; Desert Edge's Joshua Kramer (126), Prescott's Daniel Hernandez (195) and Goldwater's Danny Reyes (220). Desert Edge (Brandon Courtney-113), and Prescott (Talon Vaughn-160) each had a second champ and McClintock had a pair as well. The Chargers winners were brothers Gator Groves (120) and Marco Groves (132). The other individual champs for 2015 are Cholla's Jesus Urqidez (106); Liberty's James Deitz (138); Higley's Cameron Wells (170) and Campo Verde's Darrin Kauer (285).
