azpreps365 radio show returns

August 11, 2016 by Jose Garcia, AZPreps365

School is back in session and so is the azpreps365 radio show.

The show returns to 98.7 FM’s airwaves Saturday morning. Longtime Arizona sports broadcaster Kevin McCabe and executive producer James Mello are back.

But the drummer of the man-radio band of azpreps365, Art C. De Baca, is sitting out a couple of sets. He’ll join us as the program’s engineer every once in a while.

For the first show of the year, we are rolling out the red carpet, but not for McCabe or Mello.

They have their own red carpets. That’s how they roll.

The goal of azpreps365’s radio show is to promote the kids. So for Saturday’s show we invited some of the big boys of the 2017 football class, North Canyon’s Austin Jackson, Mountain Pointe’s Isaiah Pola-Mao and Basha’s Ryan Kelley.

Kelley is bringing some of his teammates, Basha left guard Jonathan Nathaniel and wide receiver Terrell Brown, to our studio. Jackson also will be in studio, and Pola-Mao will join us by phone.

Picture day is on Saturday morning for Mountain Pointe, one of several moments we are expecting Pola-Mao to be in front of a camera this season.

Since the Olympic Games in Rio are dominating our TV screens, we’ll also have the father of an Arizonan Olympian, Devon Allen, on the show via phone. Allen, two years removed as a Brophy High grad, will be a favorite to medal in the 110-meter hurdles next week.

His father, Louis, is flying out to Brazil on Saturday but kindly agreed to be interviewed before his flight. Our show runs from 9-11 a.m.

Say goodbye to your Saturday mornings, McCabe and Mello. But I don’t think they’re complaining.

I'll bring the donuts.
