The state championship stage for the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s golfers just got grand thanks to the Omni Tucson National Golf and Resort.
The AIA and Omni Tucson National Resort announced Wednesday that the nationally renowned Tucson championship facility with two golf courses will become the home for the AIA’s spring and fall state tournaments.
“By partnering with the Omni Tucson National Resort, the AIA is providing our Arizona golf student-athletes a chance to compete on a first-rate, top-tier course that will be a fair but challenging test of golf,” Dean Visser, the AIA’s golf tournament director, said. “The Omni will also allow us to have the boys and girls simultaneously play over two days for Division I and II, allowing us to better utilize AIA staff and volunteers.”
The Omni Tucson National Resort has been the home to many PGA as well as JGAA, SAJGA and collegiate competitions.
“We are excited to support junior golf in our community,” Danny Medina, The Omni Tucson National Resorts’s Director of Golf, said. “Hosting the state championships will allow young men and women to play at a championship facility. Omni Tucson National Resort is proud to be that facility that will hopefully leave an everlasting memory for the kids.”
The Omni Tucson National will become the home of the AIA’s state golf tournaments starting in fall 2017.
The Division II 2017-18 championships will run from Oct. 23-24 and D-I from Oct. 30-31. The D-III championships at Omni Tucson National in May will be announced at a later time.
The AIA would also like to express its gratitude to Tucson’s Randolph Golf Complex, Phoenix’s Aguila and Maryvale golf facilities and Prescott’s Antelope Hills for helping the AIA’s state golf championship events blossom.
