Window Rock utilized its rushing game as the Fighting Scouts blanked the Tuba City Warriors, 34-0, in 3A North Region football action on Friday night at Judd Avey Memorial Stadium in Fort Defiance.

Window Rock improved its regular season mark to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in region play. The Fighting Scouts entertain the Ganado Hornets next Friday in Senior Night and its final game of the year.

Tuba City dropped to 1-8 overall and 0-4 in region action. The Warriors host the Chinle Wildcats in its final regular season contest next Friday.

"We have a young and inexperienced team this year," said James Roe Jr., an assistant coach. "The kids are learning. We had some sophomores and freshmen out there. We made some mistakes out there on the field. The kids are learning from their mistakes."

After a scoreless first quarter, Window Rock marched down the field behind the signal-calling from quarterback Tyrell Boyd.

Fighting Scouts running back Naataah Chief, utilziing his speed and quickness, scampered 18 yards for a Window Rock touchdown with 7:57 remaining in the second quarter. The PAT failed, Window Rock held a 6-0 lead.

Tuba City went three-and-out on the next series of downs.

Window Rock signal-caller Boyd engineered a drive down the field to the one yard. Boyd called his own number scoring on an 1 yard run. The PAT failed, the Fighting Scouts held a 12-0 lead with 3:19 prior to halftime.

Tuba City's defense had a tough time containing Window Rock's offense.

The Fighting Scouts quickly drove the ball down the field to begin the third quarter.

Window Rock running back Cobren Nez got the call. Nez bolted into the end zone, scoring on a 2 yard run. Fighting Scouts quarterback Boyd connected with Trevor Herbert for a 2 point PAT for a 20-0 lead with 9:47 left in the third quarter.

Fighting Scouts' Jason Yazzie got behind Tuba City's defensive secondary and caught a pass from Boyd, scampering 40 yards for a touchdown with 4:48 left in the fourth quarter. The PAT failed, Window Rock extended its lead to 26-0.

Tuba City was moving the ball down field, but the Warriors' drive was hampered when Window Rock defensive back Nez picked off a pass and returned the ball 50 yards for a touchdown with 1:02 remaining in the game. The Fighting Scouts completed the 2 point PAT.
